Well, after being gone for what seemed like forever, I was finally able to go to the Downtown Toledo Library to help with Hannah's Socks this past weekend!
It was definitely a chilly, breezy morning for the month of May along with an initial threat of rain, but Mother Nature cooperated. She decided to give a little sunshine as we gave away a couple hundred pairs of socks!
Thanks to Tabitha and Mike, who secured the boxes and card tables from the wind as folks lined up to see what Hannah's Socks had to share. There were definitely some new faces waiting for socks but some of my old friends were there, too.
One man told me he had a need for socks as he was awaiting heel surgery. Another young man shared that he was so thankful for the long socks he received because he is working construction right now and has to wear work boots. A third man was so pleased that we had socks that would fit his four children that were with him. Read more »

Big thanks go out today to the Northern Dutchess Girl Scout Community of the Girl Scouts Heart of Hudson Council!

These cute socks came from them, and Hannah's Socks was one of ten charities that they chose to help. They are from the Pine Plains, Rhinebeck and Red Hooks School Districts in New York. Thanks girls!

Big thanks go out today to Meaghan and everyone from Pork Chop Kids!
They make a super-cool sock product:
"What could be cuter than your little one's thighs? Pork Chops hug your baby's chops and provide warmth, style and functionality. The unique design keeps baby warm, provides padding for those crawling days, and makes diaper changes a cinch. The stylish colors and fun patterns make even the most understated baby runway-ready!"
They sent two big boxes of socks to our Cincinnati office. We'll get these out to families in need right away!
Visit www.porkchopkids.com to learn more about Pork Chops, and tell them Hannah sent you.

Big thanks go out today to our Board Member Robin Beatty, her new husband Zach, and all who attended their recent wedding reception: In lieu of gifts, they asked guests to bring donations of new socks and collected more than 400 pairs!

Thanks to everyone involved for the donation, and for packing the socks up so nicely :)

Big thanks go out today to Terri Lackey and her students from Panhandle, Texas!

The kids collected 600 pairs of socks and delivered them to a local shelter in Amarillo, Texas, called City Church. City Church is a safe place for kids to go after school, and serves both as a church and temporary shelter in emergency situations.
Terri told us, "While we were there last week, my students were able to help sheet rock a bathroom and cut lumber for new rooms in a warehouse that City Church is renovating. It will be a youth house/hostel. My students have learned that there is a whole world beyond the sheltered life they have in our small town. We will be doing more Sock Drives in the future.... It was important that we were able to provide brand new socks for these kids who never have anything new."
Kudos to Terri and all the kids pictured above -- great work!

Big thanks go out today to teacher Stella Villalba and her students at Beechwood Elementary in Columbus, Ohio!

Stella organizes a Cultural Festival every year at her school. At this year's festival, she showed the Hannah's Story DVD to launch a Sock Drive.
Stella said via email: "At my school we were able to collect over 400 pairs of socks for your organization. We are very happy with the great turnout. Thank you for inspiring all of us to think about other people! This is an amazing idea!"
Kudos to Stella and all her students -- we'll get these socks out to families in need right away.

Sophie from Bowling Green just celebrated her 8th birthday party, and in lieu of gifts, she asked guests to bring sock donations!

They also wore crazy socks to dance in, made sock puppets, and had a Fox In Sox relay race. They collected 137 pairs for Hannah's Socks. Thanks Sophie :)

Big thanks go out today to Paula Fall, owner of Sophia Lustig and Sophie's Sister in Toledo, and Jane Wurth, owner of Ragazza in Perrysburg, for helping me look my best during the HandsOn Network Lead Summit and University of Phoenix Volunteer Leader Award ceremony in Washington D.C.!
Jane donated chic pants, a comfy blouse and a classy ivory-colored jacket; Paula provided a beautiful necklace and earrings to make my outfit complete. Maureene, who works for Paula, did my make up and Paula donated that too! To round out the ensemble a beautiful black beaded purse was included.
Thanks so much to Sophia Lustig Shop and Ragazza -- I felt like a million bucks!

On several occasions, Planet Sox has sent very generous donations of the adorable children's socks they distribute out of New York City. The socks feature Snoopy, Hannah Montana, Curious George and other fun characters. We were thrilled to receive another shipment of big boxes this week!
Thank you Mr. Levy and Planet Sox. We'll be sure these socks brighten the day of children in need in the communities we serve.
