Volunteer Diary: I have a drawerful, they were just looking for a pair

This past Saturday seemed to be a continuance of what I am calling the "Humility and Gratefulness 101 Course" offered to me as a Hannah's Socks volunteer.

In addition to being a part of the sock distribution at the Downtown Toledo Library, I also accompanied the Turner family and a group of volunteers from Bowling Green State University to the Cherry St. Mission's "drop-in center" on Madison Ave. to help hand out socks, underwear, hats, and gloves.

Many of us may take these little "necessities" for granted. In fact, we may even have a whole drawer in our dressers that is designated as the "underwear drawer" or the "sock drawer." And we may have a separate pair of mittens or gloves along with a coordinating hat and scarf to go with each coat we own! (I'm guiltily and unfortunately have to admit, I am speaking from experience in both of the above scenarios.)

But these folks at the Madison Building were so pleased and thankful for just the one pair of underwear that Hannah and I were able to give each person as we walked around the room. The experience once again reminded me of how thankful I am for the blessings I have!

In this holiday season of giving and hope, please take a moment to be grateful for all the little things you may take for granted and to humble yourself. Please consider donating to the Hannah’s Socks cause and "Care, Share, Give a Pair!" Happy Holidays.
