Birthday girl and friends go on scavenger hunt to support Hannah's Socks

Casey Borella turned one year older this February, and Hannah's Socks added 78 pairs of socks to this year's count with her help!

Eight-year-old Casey's mom and dad had the brilliant idea of planning a sock scavenger hunt at the local mall for her birthday party. Each clue led to a children's store where the parents had pre-purchased pairs of socks for the teams to discover. Store managers were notified beforehand and were ready to hand over the socks to the excited kids who had solved the puzzles.

Clues consisted of hang-man, word scramble, arithmetic problems, physical tasks, questions about Casey and rhyming clues. Four color-coded teams participated in the search. Later, as they waited for pizza at a local restaurant, each child signed a letter and completed a personal card for Hannah.

When Casey later read Hannah's Story on the internet, she said, "I never knew someone so little could do something so big, wow!"

Her mother, Penny, added, "Casey and her friends loved the idea because they love to shop, they love games, and they were excited about really making a difference for someone they did not know. It was a well-coordinated effort with help from friends and family, but most importantly from the children and their enthusiasm for the task and the reason behind it — Hannah's Socks."

The Borella family may well have started a scavenger-sock trend! Do you know of any kids who may enjoy a party like this too? For more information on how you, your friends and family can help the Hannah's Socks mission, click to email us or phone (419) 931-4757.
