Wauseon Elementary students collect 700 pairs of socks

Big thanks go out today to the students in Mr. Beck's, Mrs. Warncke's and Mrs. Grime's classes at Wauseon Elementary School!

Mrs. Grimes writes:

I am excitedly writing to you because I have a large donation of socks! Two 4th grade classes at Wauseon Elementary School decided to do combine their business letter writing unit with a service project. Students wrote business letters to area Wauseon businesses requesting sock donations. Member of the community and parents graciously helped our students to collect over 700 pairs of socks! Thanks so much! It was a great experience for all our kids.

Way to go, kids!

Archbold Elementary School collects 220+ pairs of socks

Big thanks go out today to elementary school student MacKenna of Archbold, Ohio, who recently organized a Sock Drive at her school by making posters and distributing flyers!

Her principle also made an announcement each morning encouraging the students to bring in socks. MacKenna's mom said her daughter enjoyed the responsibility of collecting and counting the socks each day. In four days the students collected more than 220 pairs of socks!

Hannah sends out a big "Thank you!" to MacKenna for all of her work organizing the Sock Drive, and to everyone at the school for learning about and helping Hannah's mission.

Daisy Troop donates cookies to help Hannah help the homeless

Big thanks go out today to Angie Davis and her Daisy Troop #10422!

They recently invited Hannah and I to meet all of them and to present Hannah with 80 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to hand out to the homeless we help biweekly at the Downtown Toledo Public Library.

The cookies were a real treat for the families that we serve. One of the fathers whose family is homeless said, "New socks and Girl Scout Cookies, it doesn't get much better than that." Another man said, "Thank you to Hannah for the socks and to the Troop for the wonderful cookies."

Volunteer Diary: Reflections on giving back on Valentine's Day weekend

A recent Saturday, the day before Valentine's Day, the Hannah's Socks volunteers were at the Downtown Toledo Library to help "share the love" with our friends in need.

Cupid's helpers included a young married couple, a family with three young children, a group of young people from the Perrysburg YMCA, Hannah's Socks co-founder Vic Turner and his father-in-law, and yours truly :)

I think this was the biggest group of volunteers I'd ever seen at one time helping to "Care, Share, Give A Pair"! And it was a good thing we had a big group of volunteers, because we had lots of "love" to share with many socks, gloves, hats, scarves, tubes of lip balm, and bottles of hand moisturizer. We had three overflowing card tables full of boxes of pre-Valentine’s Day "goodies" to give away. What a wonderful way to celebrate the Valentine’s Day weekend! Thanks to all who came out.

Learn about volunteering with Hannah's Socks.

Lisa volunteers regularly with our Toledo-area team and shares her experiences in a weekly feature called "Volunteer Diary." Newsletter subscribers get to read her posts first.
